Prophetic songs are unusual things. Some have few words and some have lots of words.
How do you know what to do or how long to go?
The length of a prophetic song depends on a couple of things. Message and impact.
Sing the message of the song and make it clear. If the song is having an impact continue to flow. When the impact is accomplished then finish the song.
The life cycle of a prophetic song can follow this pattern. Inspiration, presentation, and completion.
Inspiration is that moment that you sense, hear or feel a new song is to come. It may occur at the end of a song or during a song and you decide when to release it.
Presentation is the releasing of that song through singing or playing. It is the acting upon that which God has given you.
Completion is the singing or playing into a conclusion. This can mean to go back into a previous song or making room for another song to flow by continuing a musical cycle of chords.
Having a framework for how a prophetic song flows, along with understanding of message and impact, makes it more likely that you’ll engage in that song and bring the transformation that God desires.
Be bold and release that prophetic song inside of you!
No one should be hindered by worrying about the length of a prophetic song.
“ Presentation is the releasing of that song through singing or playing. It is the acting upon that which God has given you.”
Three easy expectations that will increase your confidence to lead prophetic worship.
Many worship leaders experience uncertainty and are apprehensive about having to lead a prophetic worship service.
This often causes them to miss the moment or not engage with a spontaneous song.
We want to turn that nervousness into prophetic courage.
3 Easy Expectations
1. Expect To Use Your Song List As A Springboard Not A Regiment
Every congregation sings their songs of worship together. We start worship with a list so in those moments of worship make room for the prophetic to flow. Your song list does not have to be followed exactly. (Eph. 5:18)
2. Expect Spontaneity But Not Chaos
Spiritual songs are songs that are spontaneous and unrehearsed but expected. Chaos happens when the team is not trained or prepared to flow together. (Col 3:16)
3. Expect Redirection But Not Derailment
The worship experience is like a journey. We want to arrive where God wants us and sometimes, He redirects our plans by highlighting another song on our list or releasing a prophetic song through us. Derailment can happen when we get off track and forget our destination. (Prov. 19:21)
When expectations are clear it is much easier to manage the flow of the spirit in worship.
Consider these expectations the next time you lead worship.
How do you know if you’re called to lead prophetic worship? When you have a desire to minister through music, a skill to develop, and a heart to serve.
If you think God wants to use your gifts to further His kingdom then follow that path.
1. Believe You Are Called.
God both calls people and looks for volunteers. The disciples heard the voice of Jesus saying “follow me.” Isaiah heard the voice of God saying “whom shall I send?” and volunteered to go.
2. Know the Biblical Role.
What does a prophetic worship leader do? In addition to leading worship, they prophecy through singing and playing spontaneous songs.
They partner with leadership by providing music and songs that move the church forward.
3. Develop Your Skills.
What skills are needed? Singing, playing an instrument, general music theory knowledge, leadership, organization and planning are all great skills to develop for leading prophetic worship.
4. Get Prophetic Training.
Read books such as Prophetic Worship 101. Listen to podcasts such as The Prophetic Worship Leader, and take the Prophetic Psalmist Master Class.
5. Understand the Economic Reality of This Ministry
According to Reach Right, as of 2018, 90% of churches in America have about 350 members or less. Of those, 50% have 100 or less.
With that in mind, you’ll need to plan for this reality. You may need to plan on other sources of income while you move toward the possibility of full time ministry if you desire.
6. Serve Through Your Church.
You should be more than just a musician, this should be your church. The place you plant yourself and build relationships for the seasons that God has.
7. Lead Prophetic Worship.
Make your song list while leaving room for the prophetic flow.
Lead worship in the settings that need you and offer the use of your gifts. That could be personal time, home groups, small groups, the main service, the community or wherever you are needed.
Taking these seven clear steps will help you engage in your calling and experience divine fulfillment.
Take the next steps and follow the call!
The Undefeated God, The Champion of Victories, is preparing His victory tour and He wants you to perform.
From every corner, cave and couch, God is calling forth an army of creative worshipers! What you have is important and He put in you what He needs for this next move! He wants you to use your gifts to participate in His victories.
Isaiah 40:26 (NLT)
Look up into the heavens.
Who created all the stars?
He brings them out like an army, one after another,
calling each by its name.
Because of his great power and incomparable strength,
not a single one is missing.
When God established the tabernacles of Moses and David for worship He stirred the people of the kingdom. Prophets would speak a new message, psalmist would write new songs, artisans would release new creativity and the people would worship with a new expectation (Ex. 35:10, 1 Chr. 22.)
God Is Stirring the People of The Kingdom Once Again.
There is something new taking place and Heaven is releasing a sound that is deeply moving the people. That sound is calling you. It is awakening you and drawing you to the next great worship movement.
God is establishing another dimension and tabernacle of worship. He is releasing the message of a new era reformation in the church and it’s penetrating the hearts and minds of the prophets, psalmist, artisans, and the people.
It is bringing us to the third tabernacle of worship, The Tabernacle of God – God’s final tabernacle and Victory Tour.
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. Revelation 21:3 (NKJV)
God Is Stirring the Prophets
Many global leaders such as Bishop Bill Hamon, Dutch Sheets, Chuck Pierce, and Cindy Jacobs are prophesying the message of reformation and awakening. And many are declaring the fullness of Christ in the five-fold ministry has brought us to a new era and dimension in the kingdom.
God Is Quickening the Psalmist
The Lord is quickening the quill of the psalmist and they are beginning to write from a new dimension and perspective. The kingdom dimension of The Tabernacle of God.
Psalm 45:1 (NKJV)
My heart is overflowing with a good theme;
I recite my composition concerning the King;
My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
God Is Summoning the Artisans
God is sounding forth the call for artisans to create with a new sense of destiny and purpose. He wants you to let your gifting’s prophesy. The beauty of The Lord displayed in your creations making way for the Glory of the Lord to cover the earth and draw people to His presence.
Exodus 35:10 (NKJV)
10 ‘All who are gifted artisans among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded:
God Is Stirring the People
God is moving on the hearts of His people and they are sensing God is coming in a new way. There’s a divine yearning that keeps drawing us to the greater glory of God that is about to be revealed.
Then everyone came whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.
When God stirred Moses and David to build it was symbolic of his future tabernacle where He would come himself and never leave.
Prepare For God’s Victory Tour
God’s victory tour is not about us coming to Him but Him coming to us. He’s planning the most elaborate victory tour that the earth has ever seen.
He is wanting us to prepare and perform as He parades to earth in all of His glory bringing His city with him. He’s bringing heaven to earth.
His celebration and victory tour will surpass the greatest concert, sporting event, or human achievement ceremony ever held. But He doesn’t want to do it alone.
He is preparing our hearts by stirring in us a desire to use our gifts to the highest level possible. He’s awakening us so that we my participate in his glory covering the entire earth.
The sound of heaven is being heard all across the church and we should let the sound of heaven move us to prepare for God’s Victory Tour!
